T20I SL V ENG - ENG won by 30 runs

England 187-8 (20 overs): Roy 69, Aponso 2-29, Malinga 2-30
Sri Lanka 157 (20 overs): Perera 57, Denly 4-19, Rashid 3-11, Jordan 2-29
England win by 30 runs

Joe Denly took four wickets in his first England match in eight years as the tourists beat Sri Lanka by 30 runs in the sole Twenty20 international.

Denly opened the bowling and removed both Sri Lanka openers Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Mendis.

Adil Rashid claimed 3-11 to stifle the hosts before Denly returned with two wickets in the final over as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 157 off 20 overs.

Jason Roy hit an eventful 69 off 36 balls as England posted 187-8.

The England opener was dropped four times and ran out captain Eoin Morgan but also hit six sixes in a brutal display of power.

The tourists reached 113-4 off 11.2 overs before rain caused the match to be delayed for an hour, but no overs were lost in Colombo.

Sri Lanka did well to restrict their opponents at the death but never got on top in the chase, despite 57 off 31 balls from captain Thisara Perera, with Denly returning the best figures by an England spinner in T20 history.

England next face Sri Lanka in a three-Test series, starting in Galle on 6 November.

5 match ODI series SL 1-3 ENG

1st ODI

England 92-2 (15 overs): Bairstow 25, Root 25*
Sri Lanka: Did not bat
No result - match abandoned

England's first one-day international against Sri Lanka was abandoned after 15 overs because of rain in Dambulla.

The tourists reached 92-2 before play was suspended at 11:15 BST, and the match was called off at 15:45 because of a wet outfield.

Openers Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy fell for 25 and 24 respectively in the space of five balls, before Joe Root made an unbeaten 25.

The second ODI takes place in Dambulla on Saturday at 05:30 BST.

A reserve day is scheduled for Sunday.

2nd ODI

England 278-9 (50 overs): Morgan 92, Root 71, Malinga 5-44
Sri Lanka 140-5 (29 overs): Thisara 44*, De Silva 36*, Woakes 3-26
England win by 31 runs (DLS method)

Eoin Morgan, Joe Root and Chris Woakes impressed as England won a rain-affected second one-day international against Sri Lanka in Dambulla.

Morgan (92) and Root (71) were the only batsmen to pass 30 in England's 278-9, Lasith Malinga taking 5-44.

Sri Lanka were unlikely to overhaul that target after falling to 31-4 - Woakes taking three wickets.

Thisara Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva rallied, but Sri Lanka were far behind when a storm curtailed play.

After the first game in the five-match series was washed out, England's 31-run win - on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method - puts them 1-0 up with three to play.

The third ODI takes place in Kandy on Wednesday at 10:00 BST.

3rd ODI

Sri Lanka 150-9 (21 overs): Dickwella 36; Rashid 4-36
England 153-3 (18.3 overs): Morgan 58*, Roy 41
England beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets

England outclassed Sri Lanka to win a rain-affected third one-day international by seven wickets and take a 2-0 series lead with two games left.

The match was reduced to 21 overs per side after a six-hour rain delay.

Sri Lanka slipped from 57-0 to make 150-9, with Adil Rashid taking 4-36 and Tom Curran 3-17 in Pallekele.

Captain Eoin Morgan hit 58 not out and Jason Roy 41 as England comfortably chased down the target with 15 balls remaining.

Opener Roy had got the innings off to a quick start with his 26-ball knock after Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root fell early.

Ben Stokes finished unbeaten on 35 to help England to victory alongside Morgan as the match finished at 23:30 local time.

England can seal a series victory in the fourth ODI at the same ground on Saturday.

4th ODI

Sri Lanka 273-7 (50 overs): Shanaka 66, Dickwella 52, Moeen 2-55
England 132-2 (27 overs): Roy 45, Akila 2-27
England win by 18 runs (DLS method)

England sealed the series against Sri Lanka with victory in another rain-affected one-day international.

The improved hosts posted 273-7 in their 50 overs, with Niroshan Dickwella and Dasun Shanaka both hitting fifties.

But England were ahead of the rate on 132-2 from 27 overs when play was suspended at 11:15 BST in Pallekele.

The game was called off at 12:10, giving England victory by 18 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method and a 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Joe Root and Eoin Morgan ended unbeaten on 32 and 31 respectively to help guide their side to a winning total after openers Jason Roy (45) and Alex Hales - who made 12 in place of the injured Jonny Bairstow - had been dismissed.

5th ODI

Sri Lanka 366-6: Dickwella 95, Chandimal 80, K Mendis 56, Sadeera 54, Moeen 2-57
England 132-9: Stokes 67, Akila 4-19
Sri Lanka win by 219 runs (DLS method)

A dismal England fell to their heaviest defeat in one-day international cricket as Sri Lanka thrashed the tourists by 219 runs in the final ODI in Colombo.

With England having already won the five-match series, they made three changes, resting captain Eoin Morgan.

They bowled and fielded poorly, with Niroshan Dickwella scoring 95 as Sri Lanka posted 366-6 - the hosts' highest score against England in ODI cricket.

England slumped to 4-3 in reply and were 132-9 when rain stopped play.

Umpire Aleem Dar ran from the pitch as a heavy storm broke while also signalling that Liam Plunkett's dismissal for lbw had been confirmed on review.

That ninth wicket lifted the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern par score to 351 and, with no further play possible, the match was abandoned shortly after 16:35 BST, leaving England 219 runs behind.

England's previous biggest margin of defeat in terms of runs was 165 runs, which has happened twice - against Pakistan at Karachi in 2005 and West Indies at Kingstown in 1994.

Having won the ODI series 3-1, England now face Sri Lanka in the sole Twenty20 on Saturday before the three-Test series starts on 6 November.
