Ashes 4th Test Day 2 AUS 60 & 241/7, ENG 391/9d

Stumps report: England have edged closer to reclaiming the Ashes after taking seven wickets at the close of play on day two of the fourth Test at Trent Bridge.

Starting the evening session 193 runs behind on 138-4, Michael Clarke, Peter Nevill and Mitchell Johnson were all dismissed to put the hosts on the brink of victory.

Australia laboured to 241-7 when play was stopped early due to bad light, with Adam Voges (48 not out) and Mitchell Starc at the crease 90 runs adrift.

Clarke was the first to go after tea when he caught by Ian Bell off the bowling of Mark Wood for another underwhelming score of 13.

Nevill and Adam Voges put up some stubborn resistance following the captain's dismissal, but the former was eventually sent packing for 17 when Ben Stokes got him out lbw.

Stokes struck again soon after as Johnson was caught by Alastair Cook for five, but England's progress was halted when bad light forced an early stop to play.

Tea Report: England have halted an Australian fightback at tea on day two of the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.

The tourists have moved to within 193 runs of England with a score of 138-4, but the loss of four wickets in 27 balls has plunged them into trouble.

David Warner was dropped twice during the afternoon session as Australia tried to dig their heels in and frustrate England.

The home side thought that they had made a breakthrough when Joe Root caught Chris Rogers off a Mark Wood delivery, but it was chalked off as replays showed that Wood's foot was over the line for a no-ball.

Rogers brought up his half-century soon after, though his joy was swiftly ended when Ben Stokes struck to send him back for 52.

Warner then registered his own 50, only for Stokes to land another blow to Australia's resurgence by getting him out for 64.

Shaun Marsh and Steven Smith tried to steady the Aussie ship during the final stages of the session, but they both lost their wickets in quick succession for two and five respectively as Stokes and Stuart Broad both claimed more victims.

Lunch report: England have opened up a 317-run lead over Australia at lunch on day two of the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.

The hosts declared on 391-9 before putting the tourists into bat for the final 10 minutes of the morning session.

With England starting the day on 274-4, Joe Root added just six runs to his overnight score of 124 before he was caught by Peter Nevill off the bowling of Mitchell Starc.

Starc struck again two overs later when he dismissed nightwatchman Mark Wood for 28, while Jos Buttler was sent back to the pavilion soon after for 12 as Starc claimed his third wicket of the morning.

Josh Hazlewood and Nevill combined to send Ben Stokes packing for five before Moeen Ali's dynamic spell with the bat was ended when he was out for 38 off 45 balls thanks to Mitchell Johnson.

Stuart Broad, who was at the crease with Steven Finn, got himself to 24 not out before Alastair Cook decided to declare. Chris Rogers (eight not out) and David Warner then negotiated three overs ahead of lunch to leave the Aussies on 14-0.
